Completing the Initial Assessment
Answer a short set of questions so Total Family can tailor your experience.
The Initial Assessment is the first thing you do after setting up your profile. It is a short set of questions about what brought you to Total Family and how your family is doing right now, and your answers shape the guidance you see from here on.
It runs about six questions and takes a couple of minutes.
Before You Start
You will need a Total Family account with your profile completed. See Log in and set up your family profile. The assessment takes only a few minutes, and you can move back and forth between questions before submitting.
Answer the Multiple-Choice Questions
The assessment opens with "What brought you to Total Family?" Choose any of the options that ring true, from honouring where you come from to getting unstuck and moving forward. This is a Select all that apply question, so you are not limited to one.
Two more work the same way further in: "Which of these things are occasionally on your mind?", which lists everyday things like writing legacy letters or having regular family meetings, and "What outcomes do you hope to achieve by clarifying your Personal Vision?"
The Assessment Progress bar at the top shows how far through you are, moving in steps as you go. Select Next to continue, or Previous to revisit an earlier answer.
Rate Your Family on the Sliders
Some questions ask you to rate yourself from 1 to 10. "How true is each statement for you today?" carries three at once, about how clear a sense you have of what matters most, of where you have been, and of where you are headed.
Drag each slider to the point that feels right. The value on the right updates as you move it, and the labels at each end read Not at all true and Completely true. Each starts at the midpoint, so leaving one alone is itself an answer.
Tip There are no right answers here, and nothing is shared outside your family. An honest middling score is far more useful than an optimistic one: the guidance you get back is only as good as what you put in.
Rate Your Readiness and Submit
The final question asks how ready you are to commit time and energy to the outcomes you picked, on the same 1 to 10 scale, this time running from Not at all ready to Fully ready. Progress reads 100%, and the button becomes Submit.
Initial assessment submitted successfully! confirms it.
What Happens Next
With the assessment submitted, Total Family uses your answers to tailor what it suggests next.

Troubleshooting
- Want to change an answer? Select Previous to step back through the questions. Nothing is recorded until you select Submit.
- Progress bar not moving? Each question advances the bar when you select Next. If it seems stuck, check that you have answered the question on screen.
