Total Family

Upgrading From Free to Premium

For a family paying for its own household. The steps, promo codes, and when you are actually charged.

This is the family self-serve upgrade, done by a head of household paying for their own household. Advisory firms buy differently, on a 30 day trial and a seat-based licence. See Starting the 30 day trial.

Total Family starts every household on the Free plan. Upgrading is a single checkout, and your account becomes Premium as soon as payment is confirmed. There is no separate activation step.

One Premium membership covers your whole family, including access for up to two heads of household.

Before You Start

You will need:

  • A Total Family account with the Initial Assessment completed
  • A payment card, or an Apple Pay or Link account

1. Reach the Plans Page

There are two ways in, and they arrive at the same checkout.

From the upgrade prompt. After submitting the assessment you land on a "You're So Close!" screen, which is the free account reaching the point where Premium takes over. Select Upgrade to Premium.

Upgrade to Premium on the You're So Close! screen, which opens Settings then Plans.

From settings. Open Settings, then Plans, at any time. The same Upgrade to Premium sits in the Settings list, and both routes land on the same page.

Not ready yet? Leave the screen and come back whenever you like. Everything you have done so far is saved.

2. Choose Premium

Your Current Plan sits at the top, reading Free, with the two tiers underneath under Choose the Plan That's Right for You. Each lists what is included, and Premium is marked Popular.

Get Started Now under Premium, which opens the checkout.

Select Get Started Now under Premium. A Frequently Asked Questions section runs below the two plans if you want to read before deciding.

3. Review Your Order

Almost There! summarises what you are buying, with a field for a promo code if you have one. The line item names the membership and confirms it is inclusive of taxes, and Subtotal, Discount, and Grand Total are itemised underneath.

Checking the order, then Buy Now, which hands you to the payment page.

When the total looks right, select Buy Now.

4. Pay

Buy Now hands you to our payment provider to finish securely. Total Family never sees or stores your card details.

Filling in the card and selecting Subscribe.

The page names what you are subscribing to and the annual price at the top, then asks for:

  • Card information: your card number, expiry date, and security code
  • Cardholder name: the name printed on the card
  • Country or region, and a postcode for the billing address

Apple Pay and Link sit above all of that and skip the card fields entirely. Your email is filled in from your Total Family account either way.

Select Subscribe. The button reads Processing while the payment goes through, which takes a few seconds. Do not close the tab while it does.

5. Confirm It Worked

You are taken back into the app by yourself, landing on Total Vision, ready to choose your values, define your purpose, and clarify your roles.

Payment clearing, then the app reopening on Total Vision with Premium unlocked.

Two places confirm it.

  • The PREMIUM badge appears under the logo in the sidebar, and Chat with Kin AI joins the menu.
  • Settings, then Plans. The Your Current Plan label reads Premium rather than Free.

Personal Vision picks up from here.

Using a Promo Code

Enter it in the Have a promo code? field on the checkout page and select Apply.

A valid code shows a green Promo code applied successfully! message, and the Subtotal, Discount, and Grand Total lines update straight away. A code covering the full cost brings the Grand Total to $0.00.

An invalid or expired code shows a red Failed to validate promo code. message under the field, and the Grand Total stays at full price. Check for typos first, particularly a letter O against a zero, then check the code has not expired.

Will I Be Charged Today if My Code Covers the Full Cost?

Usually not. At checkout, a code covering a full year shows:

  • Total due today: $0.00
  • Then the annual price, starting next year

Your Premium access begins immediately, and your card is charged at the start of the next billing year once the promo period ends. The checkout screen states the exact date, and it is worth noting it somewhere.
