Total Family

Glossary

Vision, Legacy Vault, Kin, Milestones: what each term means here.

Total Family uses a few words in its own particular way. This is what each one means inside the product.

Advisor Academy

Sequenced courses for advisors, covering how to introduce legacy work and run the conversations. Each course tracks your progress. Partner accounts only.

Advisor Library

Total Family's written material for advisors, as opposed to the Family Library their clients see. Partner accounts only.

Chat with Kin

The AI assistant built into Total Family. It answers from the Resource Library and cites the article each answer came from. See Chat with Kin.

Family Tree

The people in your household and how they relate to each other, laid out visually. Sits under Total Legacy.

Family Vision

The shared vision you write together: the values, purpose, and priorities your family agrees on. The family counterpart to your Personal Vision. See Family Vision.

Guest

Someone outside your household who has been given read-only access to specific things you switched on. A guest is not a family member and cannot edit. See Guest Sharing.

Head of Household

An adult who owns the household account. A Premium membership covers up to two, so a couple are both heads of household rather than one being the owner and the other a guest.

Initial Assessment

The short set of questions asked at sign-up about what brought you to Total Family and how your family is doing. Your answers shape what the product suggests next. See Initial Assessment.

Legacy Contact

The person who inherits access to your account after you die, and the terms you set for what they can see. See Legacy Contact.

Legacy Letter

A letter written to someone in your family, released to them when you choose. Can be written in the editor with AI help, or uploaded if you already have one. See Legacy Letters.

Legacy Vault

Where Legacy Letters live, both the ones you write here and the documents you upload. Sits under Total Legacy.

Life Phase

The stage your family is in, chosen during setup. Set on your own profile and again on the family profile.

Living Vision

Your vision after it is first created: exporting it as a PDF, editing any part, and looking back through every saved version. See Living Vision.

Milestone

A moment worth remembering, placed on your family timeline. See Milestones.

My Family

Where the people in your household are invited and managed.

My Journey

Your progress through Total Family, laid out as tasks in phases. Always reachable on the free plan, with the individual Premium tasks locked until you upgrade.

Partner

A financial advisor or wealth firm that uses Total Family with its clients. A partner can invite families and cover their membership. Partner-facing help is in For Partners.

Partner Admin

A firm role that can change settings and billing, and sees every household the firm supports.

Partner Advisor

A firm role with view-only access to the partner account, working with the households assigned to them.

Personal Vision

Your own vision, in three parts: five core values, a purpose statement, and the roles you hold. Written alone rather than together. See Personal Vision.

Purpose Statement

The short statement of what you are living by, written as part of your vision and shown on your dashboard and vision board.

Quote

Something a family member said that is worth keeping, tagged so you can find it again. Unlimited on the free plan. See Quotes.

Resource Library

Total Family's own written material. Families see the Family Library; partners also get the Advisor Library. This is what Kin answers from.

Roles

The parts you play in life, listed in priority order as the third part of your Personal Vision. The Family Vision uses priorities in the same slot.

Seat

One colleague's place on a firm's plan. Inviting someone to My Team adds a seat, billed from the first cycle after the trial ends.

Total Legacy

The section holding everything your family accumulates over time: the Legacy Vault, Milestones, Quotes, and the Family Tree.

Values

The five core values you choose during your vision, narrowed down from a longer list. They appear on your dashboard and vision board.

Vision Album

Your own photographs, used on your dashboard and vision boards. See Vision Albums.

Vision Board

The single-page layout of a finished vision: life phase, roles, purpose statement, and values.

White Label

Showing your firm's branding to the families you invite instead of Total Family's. Comes with a firm's paid plan, and uses the company logo set on the firm profile.
